| Obverse description | Central field displays the oval papal arms of Pope Paul IV, the shield charged with horizontal bars and surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys, the entire achievement framed by elaborate volute scrollwork and foliate ornament in a distinctly Mannerist style. The legend runs in a circular band around the periphery, separated from the central device by a beaded inner border. The composition reflects the High Renaissance engraving tradition of the Roman mint. |

| Reverse description | Saint Peter enthroned and facing slightly left, depicted as a bearded elderly figure wearing papal vestments and bearing a halo, his right hand raised in blessing and his left holding the keys of heaven. The figure is set within a linear inner circle, with the mintmaster's mark positioned below between the letters O and M of the mint name. The surrounding legend is separated from the central image by a prominent beaded border running the full circumference. |
