Obverse description Central field occupied by the heraldic shield of the Tizzone family, bearing diagonal bendlets (or bend sinister stripes), surmounted by an elaborate Renaissance crown with trefoil and beaded ornaments. The shield and crown are set within a plain inner circle. The peripheral legend, separated from the inner device by a beaded border, reads in abbreviated Latin and runs clockwise around the coin. The overall engraving style is consistent with early sixteenth-century Northern Italian hammered coinage.
