Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a large displayed eagle with spread wings and crowned head facing forward, rendered in bold relief in the hammered style typical of early sixteenth-century Italian feudal coinage. The eagle's talons are visible at the base of the design, and fine feather detailing is present on the wings. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the central device, reading the titles and names of the joint lords Ludovico and Pierluca Fieschi of Lava. The lettering is separated by pellets and set between the inner beaded circle and the outer toothed border of the coin.
