Obverse description Crowned bust of Louis XII facing right, depicted in a naturalistic Renaissance portrait style with shoulder-length hair visible beneath the crown and armor at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief with considerable detail in the facial features, reflecting the Italian Renaissance artistic tradition of portrait coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the bust. The circumferential legend in Latin reads +LVDOVICVS·D G·FRANCOR·REX, identifying the king as Louis, by the grace of God, King of the Franks.
