| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Ercole I d'Este, Duke of Ferrara, Modena, and Reggio, facing left with long flowing hair rendered in fine parallel strokes, the truncation of the neck plainly cut. The portrait, executed in the Renaissance manner, conveys a strong naturalistic profile typical of late fifteenth-century Italian coinage. The circular Latin legend reads DIVO HERC DVCI, distributed around the periphery, with small lozenge stops separating the words. The coin's border features a fine beaded or toothed rim characteristic of hammered silver testons of this period. |

| Reverse description | Central device consisting of a tall Gothic-style shield charged with a cross, the arms of the Commune of Reggio Emilia, surmounted by a small decorative element. The shield is rendered in a bold, stylized manner with pointed base and cusped sides typical of late medieval Italian civic heraldry. The circular Latin legend COMVNITAS REGII surrounds the shield, with a small cross stop at the base and lozenge stops separating the words. The beaded rim encircles the entire design, consistent with the hammered technique of the Reggio mint in this period. |
