Obverse description Central field features the elaborate papal coat of arms of Innocent XI (Benedetto Odescalchi), displaying a quartered shield with an eagle in chief and three lions passant above three horizontal bands, framed by ornate Baroque scrollwork mantling. Surmounting the shield are the crossed keys of Saint Peter tied with a cord, topped by the papal tiara. The circular Latin legend, interrupted by mullets, reads INNOCEN XI PONT M A IX, indicating his name, pontifical title, and regnal year IX. The coin exhibits a fine milled edge border visible around the rim.
