Obverse description The full papal arms of Clement VIII occupy the central field, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys tied with a cord. The coat of arms displays the Aldobrandini heraldic devices, including a bend with six roundels and stars at the base, rendered in fine relief typical of late sixteenth-century Roman die work. The shield is elaborately mantled and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter. The circular legend runs along the outer border, separated from the central device by a plain inner ring.
