Obverse description Central field occupied by the papal arms of Clement IX (Rospigliosi family), displaying a quartered shield charged with six lozenges arranged in two columns, set within an elaborate baroque cartouche with foliate scrollwork. Above the shield, the papal tiara surmounts crossed keys, the traditional symbols of the Holy See. The circumferential legend in Latin reads PONT·MAX CLEM·IX, separated by pellet stops, running along the inner border of the beaded rim.
