Obverse description Central device displays the papal coat of arms of Alexander VIII, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys, flanked by elaborate Baroque foliate and scrollwork mantling. The shield bears the Ottoboni family arms. A circular Latin legend surrounds the device reading PONT:M:AN:I· ·ALEXAN:VIII, identifying the pope and his regnal year. The entire composition is rendered in the high Baroque style typical of late seventeenth-century Roman ecclesiastical coinage, with bold relief and finely detailed heraldic elements. The coin is bordered by a beaded inner rim.
