Additional information

John Reinhard I ruled Hanau-Lichtenberg from 1599 until his death in 1625, and his county straddled the Rhine in Alsace — a position that made it a crossroads of Reformed Protestantism and recurring imperial friction. The teston denomination itself was a French import, normalized along the Rhine frontier through decades of cross-border trade, and Hanau-Lichtenberg's adoption of it reflects the county's closer cultural orbit around Strasbourg than Frankfurt.

The wide Suchier reference range — over sixty catalogue numbers — reflects significant die variation across the two-decade span, not a single consistent type.
