| Additional information |
Arab Muhammad Walid ruled Balkh as a semi-autonomous Uzbek amir during a period when the city's political allegiance was perpetually contested between the Bukharan Khanate and the encroaching power of the Safavid and later Afsharid Persians. The Balkh mint had operated intermittently for centuries under whoever held the city, and these bronze tengas represent a local fiduciary coinage with limited regional reach — Balkh's economy ran heavily on the caravan trade connecting Central Asia to Khorasan and India.
Album 3026 is sparsely documented, and confirmed die varieties for this ruler remain poorly catalogued in Western references.
