| Reverse description | The reverse presents a similarly inscription-filled field in Arabic, again covering the entire available surface in multiple compressed registers without a central device or decorative border. The calligraphy, in characteristic late Tughluq style, carries the kalima or Sunni profession of faith together with the names of the four Rightly Guided Caliphs, as was customary on Delhi Sultanate coinage of this period. The strike is somewhat better defined on this side, with the bold, rounded letterforms clearly legible across the central zone. Minor weakness at the edges reflects the irregular flan shape produced by the hammering technique. |
