| Obverse description | Central field bears a multi-line Arabic legend in Naskh script arranged in horizontal lines within a plain or lightly decorated border. The obverse inscription reads the royal titles and name of Sultan Ala al-Din Husain Shah, styled as 'Al-Sultan Al-Adil, Ala al-Dunya wa al-Din, Abu al-Muzaffar Husain Shah al-Sultan,' meaning 'The Just Sultan, Excellence of the World and the Faith, Father of the Conqueror, Husain Shah, the Sultan.' The inscription is the primary design element, typical of the calligraphic tradition of Bengal Sultanate coinage, with no figural imagery. The lettering is bold and occupies the majority of the flan, characteristic of hammered silver tanka production of this period. |
