Obverse description Central field bears the crowned Portuguese royal arms, depicting the quintas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) with bezants, surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is surrounded by an ornate border of pellets or beads, characteristic of the hammered coinage produced at the Ceilão (Colombo) mint during the reign of Filipe III. The overall design is bold and slightly irregular due to the hand-struck technique, typical of Portuguese colonial issues of this period.

Reverse description Central device depicts a standing figure of Saint Lawrence (São Lourenço), the patron saint of the mint, shown frontally holding his attributes, set within a beaded inner border. The letters 'S' and 'L' appear in the field flanking the figure, serving as the mint mark and saint's initials referencing São Lourenço. An outer border of pellets frames the entire design. The relief is characteristically low and the strike uneven, consistent with hammered colonial silver coinage of Portuguese India from the early seventeenth century.
