Reverse description A gridiron, the attribute of Saint Lawrence and a traditional emblem used on Portuguese colonial coinage of Ceylon, displayed centrally within a beaded or rope border. The date is divided and inscribed in the field, reading '16' to the left and '45' to the right of the gridiron. The style is consistent with hammered silver coinage produced under Portuguese administration in Ceylon during the mid-17th century.
