Obverse description The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Samoa at centre, depicting a shield charged with the Southern Cross constellation of five stars above stylised ocean waves and a coconut palm, set upon a globe and encircled by a wreath of olive branches. A Latin cross surmounts the shield above. The national motto FA'AVAEI LE ATUA SAMOA appears on a scroll at the base of the arms, translating as 'God be the Foundation of Samoa'. The legend SAMOA arcs along the upper field, and the denomination $1 is inscribed in the lower field.

Additional information

Samoa's commemorative output in the late 2000s leaned heavily on novelty themes marketed toward thematic collectors rather than numismatists, and this piece fits squarely in that category. Silver-plated copper-nickel was the workhorse composition for budget-tier Pacific island issues of the period — low production cost, high catalog presence.
