This piece belongs to a long-running series in which Pacific island nations — Samoa prominent among them — license classical European coin designs for reissue in precious metal. The Swiss Federal Mint's Helvetia figure, originally designed by Friedrich Uhlrich and introduced on Swiss federal coinage in 1850, appears here under a commercial licensing arrangement that has nothing to do with Swiss monetary policy and everything to do with the modern bullion collectibles market.
At half a gram of .9999 fine gold, the practical gold content is negligible by bullion standards.
