Obverse description Central field occupied by four large Chinese characters arranged in a vertical column reading top to bottom, flanked by additional inscription characters above and below, all rendered in traditional regular script (kaishu). The legend reads 光緒金幣 (Guangxu Gold Currency) across the upper register, 庫平一兩 (Kuping One Tael) in the lower register, and 丙午年造 (Made in the Year Bingwu) denoting the cyclical year of manufacture. The characters are boldly incuse against a flat field, framed by a raised inner border and an outer milled rim.
