Obverse description Central field displays the crowned shield of the Scottish royal arms, bearing the lion rampant within a double tressure flory-counterflory, executed in hammered relief. The shield is surmounted by an arched and jewelled crown with fleurs-de-lis and cross pattée. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the circumferential legend. The legend reads clockwise in Latin around the periphery, punctuated by pellets and a floral ornament at the top.
