Obverse description Hammered gold flan of irregular round form bearing a multi-line Arabic calligraphic legend in the field, executed in bold raised relief. The upper portion of the obverse carries the sultan's tughra-style inscription, with the mint name 'Jaza'ir' (Algiers) and the Hijri regnal date rendered in abjad numerals in the lower segment. The entire design is enclosed within a plain inner border surrounded by a dotted or beaded outer circle. The calligraphy is characteristic of Ottoman provincial coinage, with sweeping strokes and overlapping letter forms typical of early seventeenth-century Algerian gold issues.
