| Reverse description | A bold floriated cross pattée with elaborate foliate terminals extending to the beaded inner circle, with a quatrefoil rosette at the central intersection, all contained within a beaded inner circle. The arms of the cross are decorated with Gothic floral and leaf ornaments radiating outward in a symmetrical pattern, consistent with the so-called Vuurijzer (fire-steel) type of Burgundian patard coinage. The surrounding uncial Latin legend occupies the outer field between the beaded circle and the irregular coin edge. The overall design is vigorous and deeply struck for a hammered billon issue, reflecting the workshop style of the Nijmegen mint. |
