Obverse description Facing crowned bust of Emperor Ludwig IV (Louis the Bavarian), depicted in a bold, high-relief style typical of Rhenish sterlings of the early 14th century. The emperor's face is rendered frontally with stylized hair curling at the sides and a prominent crown with fleur-de-lis finials. The bust is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend LVDOVICVS : ROM : IMP R distributed around the periphery. The overall style reflects the influence of English sterling coinage adapted for the Holy Roman imperial currency.
