Obverse description Right-facing armored bust of King Frederik III, wearing a large royal crown and elaborately engraved plate armor with a lace collar visible at the neck. The king's long flowing hair falls to his shoulders in the Baroque fashion characteristic of mid-17th century portraiture. The effigy occupies the majority of the coin's field, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the armor's ornamental elements. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, separated from the coin's milled border by a beaded inner ring. The portrait is executed in a bold, naturalistic Baroque style typical of Danish coinage of the period.

Reverse description Central oval escutcheon displaying the arms of Denmark proper — three crowned lions passant among hearts — set at the intersection of a cross dividing eight surrounding shield compartments, each bearing the arms of the constituent territories of the Danish realm, including Norway, the Goths, the Wends, Schleswig, Holstein, Stormarn, Dithmarschen, and Oldenburg. The entire armorial composition is rendered in fine engraved relief in a symmetrical, heraldic Baroque style. The date 1655 and mintmaster initials HK appear to the left of the central shield within the legend. A circular Latin motto legend surrounds the design, enclosed between a beaded inner ring and the milled outer border.
