Reverse description The reverse displays a large, elaborately detailed quartered shield of the Royal Arms of Great Britain, surmounted by the Imperial State Crown rendered with fine granular detail. The shield is flanked on either side by ornate acanthus-scroll mantling. The escutcheon depicts the arms of England (three passant guardant lions), Scotland (rampant lion within a double tressure), Ireland (harp), and Hanover (inescutcheon with the arms of Brunswick, Luneburg, and Westphalia surmounted by the crown of Charlemagne), with the whole composition engraved by Jean Baptiste Merlen. The date inscription ANNO 1831 is divided by a decorative fleur-de-lis cartouche in the lower field.
