Obverse description Left-facing veiled and crowned effigy of Queen Victoria, representing her 'Old Head' or third portrait, modelled by Thomas Brock. The queen is depicted as an elderly sovereign wearing a small diamond coronet atop a widow's veil that drapes across the shoulders, with a pearl drop earring and a pearl necklace visible at the truncation. The bust is finely detailed, with a brooch bearing a sunburst motif visible at the base. The engraver's initials 'T.B.' appear on the truncation, and the surrounding Latin legend reads VICTORIA DEI GRA BRITT REGINA FID DEF IND IMP, separated by raised dots, within a toothed border.
