| Obverse description | Bare-headed young effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair drawn back and gathered in a bun with flowing ringlets, engraved in high relief after William Wyon's celebrated 'Young Head' portrait. The truncation of the neck is plain and unadorned. The circular legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA arcs around the upper periphery, with the date positioned prominently in the lower exergual area. The coin is bordered by a fine continuous toothed or beaded rim. |
