| Obverse description | Half-length effigy of King James I facing right, wearing an ornate imperial crown and richly decorated armour chased with intricate strapwork. The king holds a sceptre over his right shoulder and an orb surmounted by a cross in his left hand, both rendered in fine relief. The royal mantle with ermine collar is draped about the shoulders, conveying regal authority. The legend encircles the effigy within a beaded inner border, with the mint mark preceding the inscription at upper left. |
