Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King George III facing right, modelled in high relief with finely rendered curling hair bound by a laurel wreath. The portrait, engraved by Thomas Wyon the Younger, is executed in a classically inspired neoclassical style. The circular Latin legend GEORGIUS III DEI GRATIA runs along the periphery, separated from the bust by a plain field. The coin is enclosed by a finely beaded border.

(Translation: George the Third by the Grace of God)
Reverse description The quartered royal shield of arms, displaying the arms of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Hanover, is surmounted by a large imperial crown of elaborate design. The shield is set within a lightly decorated cartouche and rests on a plain field. The circular Latin legend BRITANNIARUM REX FID. DEF. is arranged around the upper periphery, while the date 1816 appears in the exergue below the shield. The entire design is enclosed by a beaded border consistent with the obverse.
