Issued to mark the May 2018 marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, this is one of dozens of commemorative sovereigns Gibraltar has produced since gaining the right to strike legal tender gold coinage in the 1990s. Gibraltar's sovereign program has long operated as a collector-focused enterprise rather than a circulating currency, with the Royal Mint's traditional sovereign format repurposed almost entirely for the commemorative market.
The .9167 fineness matches the historic 22-carat standard maintained by the Royal Mint since 1817.
