Additional information

Alderney sits roughly 50 miles from Dunkirk, close enough that the island's residents could hear the guns during Operation Dynamo in May–June 1940. The evacuation itself ended just weeks before German forces occupied Alderney — the only British territory from which the entire civilian population was evacuated before occupation, a fact that gives this issuer an unusually direct connection to the event being commemorated.
