Additional information

The Falkland Islands' right to issue its own coinage stems directly from the 1982 conflict — a British Overseas Territory that might otherwise have been absorbed into Argentine currency had the war gone differently. Coins struck under the Falkland Islands Government carry genuine legal tender status on the islands, though the effective circulation base numbers fewer than 3,500 permanent residents.

Pistrucci's Saint George design, used on British sovereigns since 1817, appears here on a denomination that carries no gold content whatsoever — a deliberate nod to sovereign format without the bullion economics.
