Obverse description Within an inner circle, the crowned Prussian eagle displayed with spread wings, the breast charged with the letter 'S' (for Solidus). The eagle is rendered in a bold, archaic style characteristic of early 17th-century German minor coinage. The peripheral legend in Latin reads GEORG.WILH.MAR.BR.S.R.I.EL., identifying the issuer as Georg Wilhelm, Margrave of Brandenburg and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire. The legend is contained between the inner circle and the coin's rim.
