| Obverse description | The Doge kneels to the left, holding in his right hand a tall processional cross adorned with a pendant banner or gonfalon. Beside him stands the nimbate winged Lion of St. Mark, facing right, the traditional symbol of Venice. The surrounding legend names the Doge and the republic in abbreviated Latin, reading S M V FRANC CONT with the denomination numeral 12 in the field. The composition is characteristic of Venetian soldo coinage of the early seventeenth century, combining devotional and civic imagery in a compact hammered format. |
