Obverse description Crowned heraldic shield quartered with the arms of Lower Saxony (horse), Chablais, Aosta (lion), and Duchy of Saxony, with the arms of Savoy superimposed at the center. A mintmark appears below the shield. From 1587, three heart-shaped leaves representing the County of Brehna were incorporated into the design. The legend surrounds the shield in the outer field, rendered in Latin.

Reverse description A bold cross of Saint Maurice, with each arm terminating in a crosslet, is set within a quadrilobed (quatre-foil) frame composed of curved lobes forming a decorative corniche. A pellet appears in each angle of the cross. The circular Latin legend surrounds the entire composition, with the mint master's initials incorporated at the close of the inscription.
