(Translation: Azzone Visconti)
Reverse description Saint Ambrose, patron of Milan, is depicted seated frontally on a throne in full episcopal vestments, holding a crozier in his left hand and raising his right hand in benediction. The enthroned figure is rendered in the stylized, hieratic manner characteristic of early fourteenth-century Italian ecclesiastical coinage, with drapery folds indicated by incised lines. The composition is enclosed within a reeded inner circle, with the saint's name legend running in the outer field. The design reflects the strong civic and religious identity of Milanese medieval coinage under the Visconti lordship.
