Obverse description The Lion of St. Mark depicted facing, with wings spread, holding an upright sword in one paw and an open Gospel book in the other, rendered in the characteristic Venetian heraldic style. A horizontal line separates the central device from the exergue, within which the denomination numeral 'I' appears flanked by rosettes. The circular legend SANCT. MARC. VEN runs along the coin's periphery, interrupted by star ornaments.
