Obverse description Central field depicts the standing figure of the Doge of Venice in full regalia, facing front, wearing the characteristic ducal corno and ceremonial robes, presenting a banner or staff in one hand. The figure is rendered in the medieval Byzantine-influenced style typical of Venetian hammered coinage. A Latin legend encircles the design, reading S.M.V.BERT.VALER, identifying Saint Mark of Venice and the reigning Doge Bertucci Valier. The flan is irregular, as characteristic of hammered copper issues of this period.
