Additional information

Nicolò Tron's dogeship lasted only two years before his death in 1473, making this among the shortest-issued soldino types in the late Venetian series. He is better remembered for the lira that bears his portrait — the first Venetian coin to carry a doge's likeness, a radical break from the republic's centuries-long tradition of anonymous coinage that drew considerable criticism from the Great Council.
