Obverse description Bare head of Louis XVI facing left, hair dressed and tied with a ribbon at the nape, engraved in the neoclassical style by Pierre-Benjamin Duvivier. The royal effigy is rendered with fine portraiture detail, the truncation of the bust appearing at the lower edge of the field. The mint mark appears below the truncation. The circular Latin legend runs along the periphery of the obverse.

Reverse description Central device comprising the crowned shield of France semé with fleurs-de-lis arranged in three rows of two and one, surmounted by a royal crown with fleurons and arches. The date is divided and appears above the shield on either side of the crown. The circular Latin legend surrounds the entire composition, with the mint mark letter positioned at the base of the field below the shield.
