| Obverse description | Crowned flat-topped shield bearing the Arms of Denmark, centrally positioned within a beaded inner circle. The royal arms are rendered in a compact heraldic style characteristic of late 17th-century Danish coinage. Christian V inherited a Denmark still absorbing the consequences of the 1660 constitutional revolution that had abolished noble tax privileges and converted the monarchy to hereditary absolutism. Coinage reform followed, and the skilling denominations were progressively debased through the 1670s as war expenditure — particularly the Scanian War against Sweden, fought from 1675 to 1679 — drained the treasury. The .156 fineness of this issue reflects that fiscal pressure directly.
