Philip is depicted to the left in armour with a ruff collar, Mary to the right draped and crowned. A Latin legend encircles the effigies within a beaded border, reading PHILIP ET MARIA D G R ANG HISP.

Reverse description The quartered royal arms of Philip and Mary displayed on an ornate shield surmounted by a crown, combining the arms of England, France, Spain, and other dominions. The shield is flanked by the value mark and enclosed within a Latin legend reading POSVIMVS DEVM ADIVTOREM NOSTRVM within a beaded border. The reverse legend is a religious motto meaning 'We have made God our helper.'
