| Obverse description | The arms of Uganda occupy the central field, featuring a shield divided into quarters and bearing a traditional drum and the waters of the Nile, supported by a Uganda kob (Kobus thomasi) to the left and a grey crowned crane (Balearica regulorum) to the right. A scroll at the base bears the national motto. Uganda's 1987 shilling coinage arrived during a period of severe monetary instability following Milton Obote's second government and the Bush War that brought Yoweri Museveni to power in early 1986. The new National Resistance Movement administration inherited an economy with inflation running at over 200 percent annually, making the practical value of a one-shilling piece essentially ceremonial by the time these were struck.
KM#27 is a short-lived type — Uganda redenominated in 1987, issuing a new shilling at 100 old shillings, which rendered this coin obsolete almost immediately after production.
