Obverse description The arms of Uganda occupy the central field, featuring a shield divided into quarters and bearing a traditional drum and the waters of the Nile, supported by a Uganda kob (Kobus thomasi) to the left and a grey crowned crane (Balearica regulorum) to the right. A scroll at the base bears the national motto. The legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery, and the denomination ONE SHILLING curves along the lower periphery, all separated by pellet stops at either side.
