Obverse description Draped bust of Cæcilius Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore, facing left with flowing long hair, rendered in high relief in a baroque portrait style typical of mid-17th century English colonial coinage. The effigy occupies the majority of the field and is contained within an inner beaded border. The Latin legend surrounding the bust reads CÆCILVS:DNS:TERRÆ-MARIÆ:&C, identifying Calvert as Lord of Maryland.
