Obverse description Left-facing crowned effigy of King George VI, wearing the Imperial State Crown rendered in fine detail with fleurs-de-lis, crosses pattée, and jewelled arches. The king's bare-shouldered bust is modelled in high relief with naturalistic facial features. The engraver's initials 'PM' (Percy Metcalfe) appear in the field below the truncation. The surrounding legend reads 'GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR', disposed around the periphery within a beaded border.
