Reverse description A crouching Maori warrior is depicted in three-quarter view facing left, kneeling on one knee and holding a taiaha (a traditional Maori weapon) in his right hand. The figure, engraved by George Kruger Gray whose initials 'KG' appear in the field, wears a flax skirt and is rendered with considerable ethnographic detail. The legend 'NEW ZEALAND' arcs along the upper periphery, while 'ONE SHILLING' is inscribed along the lower periphery flanked by a central dot, with the date appearing to the right. A beaded border frames the entire design.
