| Obverse description | Left-facing crowned effigy of King George V, engraved by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, depicted in military uniform with epaulettes and decorations finely rendered in high relief. The Imperial State Crown surmounts the monarch's head, its arches and jewelled detail carefully delineated. The circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy close to the toothed border, reading from the lower left, with the engraver's initials B.M. discreetly placed at the truncation. The portrait is modelled in a confident, naturalistic style characteristic of Mackennal's Royal coinage work. |
