Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, engraved by Cecil Thomas as the first portrait used on Nigerian coinage. The Queen's hair is styled in characteristic rolled curls, and a pearl necklace is visible at the truncation. The surrounding legend reads QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND, with the engraver's initials CT appearing at the lower right of the bust truncation. A fine dentilled border frames the design.
