Obverse description Facing right crowned bust of the young King Edward VI, depicted in armour with a ruffled collar, rendered in the bold, slightly crude style characteristic of early Tudor hammered coinage. The royal crown surmounts the king's head, with the portrait truncated at the shoulder. The surrounding legend, separated from the field by a beaded inner circle, reads the regnal motto in Latin with the date expressed in Roman numerals. The style reflects the work of the Tower Mint engravers during the king's second coinage period.
