Obverse description Central field depicts a finely engraved view of the Eddystone Lighthouse rising from a rocky outcrop amid choppy seas, with two sailing vessels flanking the structure — a large multi-masted ship to the left and a smaller vessel to the right. The lighthouse is rendered in careful detail, showing its characteristic stone-coursed tower surmounted by a lantern room. The circular legend VALUE ONE SHILLING curves around the upper field, with the issuer's initials H.M. appearing in the exergue at the base. The entire design is bordered by a prominent ring of raised beads.
