Reverse description Four crowned cruciform shields bearing the arms of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, arranged symmetrically around a central Garter star in the field. The date is divided and appears above the central device, split across the uppermost shields. Decorative devices — plain angles, plumes, or roses and plumes — appear in the angles between the shields depending on the variety. The circumferential Latin legend reads MAG·BR·FRA·ET·HIB·REG·, running around the outer border within a milled edge.
